Mere Baap Pehle Aap is a remake of the Malayalam hit Ishtam.Priyadarshan’s work seems to be just making the original film to suit Bollywood aesthetics and many times he is good at it.
The film has a few uproarious scenes in the first half but the second’s protracted emotional melodrama turns it into middle-of-the-road fare.
Janardhan Rane (Paresh Rawal) is a widower and a strict father who lives with his son Gaurav (Akshaye Khanna). Janardhan always manages to get into discomfited situations, thanks to his best friend Mathur’s (Om Puri) frantic pains to get married.
Shikha (Genelia D’Souza) is Gaurav’s good friend. And Anuradha (Shobana), Shikha’s guardian, is Janardhan’s first love. The film revolves around how Gaurav and Shikha try to unite Janardhan and Anuradha, and, in the process, fall in love.
The story of a son trying to get his father married is not a silly idea but such ideas are best if ideated rapidly, and this is where Priyadarshan fails to keep a tally. The first half is cheerful but the second is aimless on with twists and sub-plots, which devastate the film. Khanna flair for comedy is displayed adequately. Rawal is appropriately cast as Janardhan. Rawal and Khanna’s chemistry as the father-son duo keeps the film energetic during the boring time.
Om Puri manages to keep you in good note on most occasions. D’Souza is lively and a meet change in Priyadarshan’s films. Rajpal Yadav, has literally no role to pay. Naseeruddin Shah is brought in for a tedious climax but leaves his mark.
The music leaves no impact. A realistic director like Priyadarshan should have thought twice before attempting such futile fabrication of making a remake picture for the Bollywood, for the reason that the plot was pertinent for the mallu mass but not appropriate for Bollywood, as their potential, mind-set, and viewpoint are absolutely dissimilar to that of South Indians which Priyadarshan should have kept in mind.
From the critic point of view the film stands on the grade of an average only.

“I always wanted to make a film and the idea of making a film on AIDs came to my mind when I decided that my film should be about hope,” says the student class XII of South Point School who is the brainchild behind the social movie.
The film titled Isolation, records the testing and harms of a HIV positive youth. “His family refuses to support him. And he is driven to the edge because of the discrimination he faces,” says Sammadar the student filmmaker.
Sammadar informs that“being HIV positive does not necessarily mean that a person is an AIDS patient. That is what we want to say in this film,” The actors and the crew of the film encompass mostly school and college students.
He completed the shooting with the help of family and friends, Sambit is now all set to start post-production work. “I am quite excited about this phase, because I know that a film can be made or be broken in the editing table,” said the young filmmaker with a touch of satisfaction.
Sammadar intends to join a film school and learn filmmaking. And he hopes that everything will work out in his good turn.

Hong Kong, Jun 12 (PTI) Betting big on Indian market, world’s third largest mobile handset maker Motorola is planning to score music tones and tracks with a dash of Bollywood and regional flavour for its handsets.

The US-based company says it would not be just Hindi movies, better known as Bollywood, but an amazing array of regional songs in local dialects and in foreign languages are also on anvil.
The company has acquired Singapore-based Soundbuzz, said to be Asia’s largest digital music company for the purpose of integrating Bollywood music in ring tones in its handsets.
“Essentially, the idea is to give an ethnic flavour in the language of local Indians who are mesmerised by the Hindi filmy songs from Bollywood,” Christ White, President, Media Applications and Service, Motorola Inc, told PTI in Hong Kong on the sidelines of the two-day ‘Music Matters 2008′ conference.
Several handset operators took part in the two-day conference aimed at capitalising on the average user’s craze for enjoying music via the handset.
“Soundbuzz has an amazing catalogue and library of over three lakh Indian songs and it is a strategic alliance for us to capitalise on the Indian market,” White said.
The introduction of MP3-enabled handsets, even in some of the entry level models, indicates the company’s ambitious project of exploiting the music rage among the handset users, said White.
Most youngsters in India, when not conversing, are seen walking around with headphones plugged to their ears, listening to music, recalled White. PTI

Dubai, Jun 12 (PTI) Bollywood’s biggest entertainment house, Yash Raj Films, will in the near future launch a multi-billion-dollar theme park in the United Arab Emirates in association with a leading investment company over here.

The theme park, Yash Raj Films Entertainment District, would contain a movie palace, unique hotel and a number of Indian genre entertainment concepts.
Yash Chopra has hailed the partnership with Dubai Infinity Holdings, saying it will make their foothold stronger in the Gulf region with Dubai aiming to be the most visited destination in the world by year 2015.
“All the components of the Yash Raj District will be themed around the Yash Raj banner,” the ‘Khaleej Times’ quoted Yash Chopra as saying.
The YRF brand is behind the success of South Asian blockbusters such as Veer Zara, Hum Tum, Bunty Aur Babli, Chak De India, in addition to the timeless classics, Kabhie Kabhie and Silsila.
Commenting on the partnership, DIH Chief Executive Officer Samira Abdulrazza said, “This is both an encouraging and exciting step for us. Bringing such an honoured name into the UAE has been a strategic move as it attracts the core demographic of the country.
“Furthermore, Indian cinema has an increased general following within the region, as cinema statistics highlight that Bollywood films gross higher than Western films. This will be a one-of-a-kind partnership here in the UAE, which we are very proud to be associated with.” The first phase of the Yash Raj Entertainment District is scheduled to be completed by 2012. Ashwariya Bachchan’s Rs 1 Million Sunglasses
The gorgeous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan reportedly made the producers of Sarkar Raj shell out Rs.1 million for designer sunglasses for her look in the film.
Apparently, Ash herself chose the glares that made a big hole in the producers’ pocket. Obviously, the price tag left the production houses, K Sera Sera and Z Picture Company, reeling.
Ash plays Anita Rajan, an aggressive and ambitious business tycoon - she is the CEO of a power plant.
According to a source from the production house, Ash was given a pair of designer glasses as part of her look in the Ram Gopal Varma directed film.
But the Bachchan bahu didn’t like the sunglasses much and told the producers that she would get a pair for herself. It sounded fine, until the bill arrived.
Ash didn’t settle for anything regular. The source added that she finally selected a pair of Gucci sunglasses from Harrods when she was in London.
The glares do make a style statement as far as her look in the film is concerned, but the production house could not digest the idea of her wearing such expensive glasses, especially since they had to settle the bill.
‘Sarkar Raj’ also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan in pivotal roles
Bollywood hopes to turn tide with big flicks
MUMBAI: Bollywood is looking to take over from where the IPL ends. The post-IPL period will see a flurry of big releases with Sarkar Raj, which marks the coming together of the three Bachchans, seeking to initiate the box-office hungama. The industry has seen a lull in the recent past, which has coincided with the cricket extravaganza, and only one film (Jannat) has managed to buck the trend. Films of various budgets have kept bombing at the box-office during the 44-day IPL fever. Now, Bollywood is gearing up to strike back. Sarkar Raj, a sequel to the 2005 hit Sarkar, is the first biggie (lined up for release this Friday); the film stars the three Bs (Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya).

Raima and Riya Sen are coming together…and as sisters…in Vicky Chopra’s Seasons Greetings. The episodic film directed by Vicky Chopra will apparently have six stories all coming together in unexpected ways. The two sisters are not too willing to discuss the project.
Raima shooting in Italy says, “Yes, Riya and I are finally coming together as sisters. But I’m yet to hear the script, though I’ve given the nod. Though she’s quite mad we’re very much alike in most respects.”
Riya speaking about the project earlier has said, “Raima and I stay together in Mumbai. There is not a thing that we don’t share. All our friends are common. If she likes someone, so do I. And if I dislike someone, she doesn’t have a choice. Our friends say we should’ve been twins.”
The sisters had offers earlier to act together. “But we were pretty sure that if and when we come together, it would have to be as sisters,” said Riya. Interestingly, when Shilpa and her sis Shamita came together, it was to play soutens in Deepak Tijori’s Fareb.

The new age bracket of Indian movie stars is whirling consumerist much before the glare of publicity dim.
Many are into retail, fashion and the hotel industry - and now into the world of cricket, as exemplified by Shah Rukh and Preity Zinta, who have heavily invested in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the richest domestic cricket tournament in the world.
It is understood that Khan has already got the biggest knock out of each money that he has so far downcast into IPL. Apart from this, Khan’s production house - Red Chilies - is motivated to come forward as the best in animation and special sound effects.
He is, perhaps, vigilant after India’s biggest star Amitabh Bachchan’s production house folded with sufferers of Dh81.5 million.
One of the first actors to embark on investing in business from the film industry was Mithun Chakraborty who started his own hotel business in south India. Since then, many have followed, together with actors like Suniel Shetty and Bobby Deol.
Now actresses too are blurring the lines between the worlds of Bollywood and business.
Stars like Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai and Preity Zinta are giving some strong competition. Sushmita was probably the first to turn industrialist when she placed up her company Sensazione in 2006. Through her company, she plans to open a chain of hotels, lounges and spas. She has also acquired 12,000 sq ft of space in Kolkata for a “lifestyle zone”, which apart from a huge open space will house a nightclub, a restaurant and a cigar lounge. She has a jewelry retail show room in Dubai which her mother manages.
Preity Zinta has become co-owner of the Mohali cricket team of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with partner Ness Wadia and two others. She is indomitable to make a go of it and says: “When I do anything in life for the first time, I want to succeed.
“It’s 2008! Women should get more active in business. It’s very different from working on a film where you’re on your own when ‘action’ is called on camera. In a boardroom, there’s constant conference and multi-tasking. The creative process is different in both the spheres.”
Aishwarya Rai, has moved in to revive father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan’s company AB Corp and is negotiating with filmmakers to regenerate production work. Ayesha Takia, who with restaurateur boyfriend Farhan Azmi is set to launch their first boutique hotel in Goa.
The couple has acquired a 200-year-old Portuguese bungalow in Candolim, which is just 10 minutes away from the beach. They plan to build a luxurious swimming pool, a lounge area and are working out details on how to entertain guests with good music and superb cuisine.
“Each of our boutique hotels will have 20 rooms,” Ayesha says.
Her enthusiastic boyfriend adds: “Ayesha is interested in doing other things rather than just acting, which is so great.”
In 1940, celebrated actress Devika Rani tried her hand at business by captivating the indict of Bombay Talkies after her husband’s death, but she had to countenance disappointment.
With a bit of luck, the fresh contingent is in a position to rephrase the convention.

The movie “Boothnath” is aimed at children audience on vacation. The movie is about a friendly spirit, family generations, school pranks and relationships. The script of the movie is clear and performance of Amitabh Bachchan is extremely perfect. Though the film shows Ghosts, it is not a horror movie and it just tries to get spirituality in theme.
The movie starts off as a perfect entertainer for kids. There is even a song sung by the kids Hum to Hain Aandhi dancing adult style, which borrows heavily from Westside Story the cult Hollywood film of the ’60s. Banku (Aman) has just shifted with his parents (Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla) to this huge house in Goa. But the house is haunted by an angry ghost (Bhoothnath) whose sole aim in life is to rid the house of its inhabitants. And the ghost can be vengeful.
But the ghost is no match for Banku’s charm and innocence. Soon they develop a rapport and the two of them create a magical world of their own. Some very good special effects as Amitabh appears and disappears at will. And Aman is a fairly spontaneous actor. He should have been given better dialogues instead of the stilted dialogues he is now busy mouthing.
Aman insists he has a special friend who is not visible to anybody else. But his mother does not believe him. Then suddenly one day Juhi Chawla realizes his her son is telling the truth. So Bhootnath is forced to appear in a human ‘avatar’ in front of Juhi too.
Chopra was very forthright and honest in admitting that Big B and SRK will not be seen sharing the same frame in Bhoothnath. He elaborates that this is so as it is the demand of the script.
Final verdict:
A summer vacation movie for the kids

According to grapevine, King Khan will be seen with Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor in the forthcoming movie Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi by Yash Raj Films directed by Aditya Chopra. Deepika’s love interest will be SRK, but SRK’s heart has been stolen by a village belly Sonam. SRK will enact the role of an NRI who returns to his country wherein he find the village girl. Since both girls are not in best of their terms {following the Ranbir Kapoor breakups), the off-screen sparks will be more interesting to watch than the onscreen ones.
