Women are there in all types of job stream, teaching, secretatrial work, police, doctor etc.etc.  But her job is different.  Meet  Bhavna Paliwal of New Delhi is, a private detective being hired by Indian brides to investigate about their suitors.

Bhavna Paliwal, is among one of India’s wedding detectives, who are being hired here in growing numbers to dig out out the truth about prospective mates.

In India, hiring a wedding detective like that of Paliwal has become a familiar prenuptial habit, as important as the heavy wedding gold and the multi-cuisine ten-course meal served on plates.

Confidential detectives are in business in India for several years but today their services are more essential than before. As there  is a tremendous enhancement in the business class of Delhi, so is the augment of dowries. Those dowries, in turn, have boosted the encouragement for hoax.

Grooms from United States come in haste, marry, then rush back home with the booty, leaving behind what have become known as “abandoned brides”. Meanwhile, in India, young couples who meet over the internet are getting away with lies that gossip would once have exposed.

Anupam Mittal, founder of Shaadi.com, an internet portal that celebrated its millionth match last year says,

“When people meet over our site, we recommend a private detective to get all the background when you have a potential bride living in, say, Bangalore and a groom living in Hyderabad,”.

It is estimated that 30,000 brides being deserted every year, usually by husbands living abroad, India’s Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs also recommends that families hire private detectives to give something the once-over suitors and avoid being cheated into giving away dowries, which are formally banned but are still common among the affluent. The ministry estimates that hundreds of thousands of brides are lied to or misled each year.

Off late, Bhawna had to reveal the truth about a computer engineer about the groom’s partying at nightclubs, hard liquor sloshing in his glass, flirty cocktail waitresses protracted at his table.

Then she showed her the worst of it: the housemaid’s tearful videotaped confession that she was having an affair with the groom.

Actually Paliwal, along with other detectives from her agency, spent days trying to be friendly with the intended groom’s maid and videotaping her with a spy cam. Paliwal was undercover when she chatted up the maid, telling her she wanted to open a business in the area. According to Bhawana, the bride was very upset but then I saved her from lifetime misery.

Actually, the investigation involved a team of four female detectives, led by Paliwal. Since it was a rush job and included the use of high-tech recording equipment, Paliwal’s agency charged about Rs.50,000/- for the full investigation. But the bride’s family were really content with the results of the survey, they says their daughter’s life is saved.

On being asked whether she herself went for an examination of her would be husband she said” I never knew about any such services”, she said grinningly.
