Tashan is a impending Bollywood film starring Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Anil Kapoor. It is directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya who wrote the screenplay and dialogues for hits like Dhoom and Dhoom 2. The film will be produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra under Yash Raj Films and is planned for a release in April 25th, 2008.
The music
The music has just released and is soon set to swing the music charts.
Yash Raj movies recently are just a average offering in a sumptuous packaging. and Tashan is no exclusion.
Saif’s son, Ibrahim, will be seen making his debut with the film, and is reported to play his son. All the actors will be seen generous new looks designed by designer Aki Narula, with Kapoor in a very sensational role and apparently donning a bikini.
Where the shooting was done
In June 2007, the cast began filming in Kerala, and continued shooting in Laddakh and Rajasthan. Pictures of Khan and Kareena Kapoor were taken in September 2007 while shooting for the film in the Fort area of Mumbai. Some portions of the film were later shot in the city of Haridwar on the banks of the river Ganges and Greece.
Here is a brief preview of the hypered Tashan.
What happens when you hurl two guys who disgust each other together.
A cool call center executive Jimmy Cliff (Saif Ali Khan), a desi aspirant gangster Bachchan Pande (Akshay Kumar) add for good measure a beautiful girl Pooja (Kareena Kapoor) who can’t live trusted on a journey across extravagant India, a journey which will modify the route of their life in more ways than one, a voyage where even enemy need to reliance each other if they want to be energetic.
The snag is, in this world no one can be trustworthy ever!
And to top it all there is the wickedness eye of Bhaiyyaji aka Anil Kapoor, a nonconformist gangster who enjoys butchering people as much as he enjoys interpolation of English.
Secret revelation:
In the full film Saif and Kareena are in love in full swing, but in the closing stages it is Akshay Kumar who gets take hold of of Kareena! opps…
Prediction
Yash Raj’s all movies are not a hit like Chak De, his Laaga Chunri Me Daag went into melancholy, this movie may be liked by a certain section of masses, but it may not be family movie due to hypered thunderous scenes, as Kareena and Saif’s chemistry is on full scale. On a scale of 10, a rating of 7 may be given.

Kareena Kapoor walked away with the best actress trophy for the film “Jab We Met” at a scintillating presentation ceremony at the MMRDA Ground in the Bandra-Kurla Complex in northwest Mumbai Sunday. FTPGI hosts its own award ceremony to honour Indian artistes as well as creative and technical personalities from the film industry every year. The trophies are known as “Apsara” awards. While “Chak De! India” was chosen the best movie of 2007, its director Shimit Amin bagged the trophy for the best director. A Pakistani television channel, ARY Gold, also honoured actor Hrithik Roshan as the Best Male Style Icon of the year at the ceremony. Katrina Kaif bagged the Best Female Style Icon ARY Gold trophy. Akshay Kumar, who churned out the maximum number of hits last year, was adjudged the “Entertainer of the Year” by the FTPGI jury. NDTV Imagine honoured Deepika Pudokone and Ranbir Kapoor as the year’s best new faces, respectively. Salman Khan and Govinda received the hit pair NDTV Imagine trophy for their breezy performances in producer Sohail Khan’s hit movie last year, “Partner”. Possessing a beautiful face and a mesmerizing smile, Ayesha Takia is one such actress who is capable of winning over people with her performance as well as sweet talk. Another interesting thing about Ayesha is that the cutie has been able to win applauses from the audience both for her roles in serious films as well as in comedy. Soon Ayesha will be seen in an interesting role in Rohit Shetty’s comedy thriller Sunday. Recently, we caught up with Ayesha and during a brief encounter she talked about her film Sunday, her upcoming projects and plans for the future. Here are the excerpts.
Q: Tell us something about your character in Sunday.
A: In this film, my character’s name is Sehar who works as a dubbing artiste for a cartoon network. She is a very forgetful kind of a girl and cannot remember things of the past and as a result she is often in problems.
Q: This is the first time that you are portraying a dubbing artist. Did you need to take any special preparation for this?
A: Actually Vikash, who had trained Tussar Kapur for the dumb character in Golmaal, has helped me a lot in doing this role to perfection. Simultaneously, I used to watch a lot of cartoon films at home to prepare myself for the role which demanded that the facial expressions of the artist should match his voice. While doing this role I have often noticed that the expressions of some dubbing artists are very loud and on the other hand, some people’s appearances are so funny that I often used to feel ashamed. I loved doing this role as it provided me with an opportunity to learn a lot of things.
Q: While preparing for the role you have watched a lot of cartoon shows. Which among them is your favorite?
A: I personally liked ‘Donald Duck’ and ‘Mickey Mouse’ a lot and this is also because of the voice-overs in these shows. I also liked ‘Tom and Jerry’, but this is a silent cartoon show and hence I did not get much to learn from this show.
Q: Would you call this a return to your childhood days?
A: (Laughingly) No, it is nothing like this. But it is also true that I have never spent so much time watching cartoon networks and now it looks so strange. I remember initially when I used to watch the cartoon networks, my dad used to come and tease me saying that I was watching cartoons at this age and I used to smilingly reply that I am merely preparing for my role. Then he used to remind me that I would do the same thing when I was a kid.
Q: What has been your experience working with co-stars?
A: I have enjoyed a lot working with everyone. There were four men - Ajay, Arshad, Irfaan and Rohit - in the film and I was the lone girl. But I have never felt any difference working with them and even joked with them. Ajay is not only a sporting person, but also very protective. Many people have told me that he is prankster, but I have always found him to be an introvert. Irfaan too is very much like Ajay, but Arshad is a funny person and always made us laugh with his jokes and pranks. And what should I tell about Rohit, he was the director, but still one of us. While working he was serious, but rest of the time, he was like a friend.
Q: In this film there is an incident where you miss a Sunday. How do you spend your Sundays in real life?
A: (Laughingly) Sundays were very attractive to me since my school days as it would be a holiday. I always feel very upset when I miss a holiday in real life. On Sundays I wake up late and do all my work leisurely. And there is a special fun in watching television shows on this day.
Q: After Sunday what else is in the pipeline?
A: I am working in Boney Kapoor’s Wanted which is a remake of Pokhri in Tamil. I am doing the role of a gym instructor who doesn’t have a father and she works to look after her mother and younger brother. I am also working with Nagesh once again, but I don’t know whether the film will be titled 8 BY 10 or Tasveer. This is a big budget psychological thriller and here I am opposite Akshay Kumar. The film is a story about a couple from Canada. In addition, I am doing De Taali for E Nivas and the film is based on the topic of friendship. Aftab is opposite me in this film, which is a wonderful movie like Socha Na Tha.
Q: Since the beginning of your career you have concentrated on career-oriented films rather than masala films. What is your take on this?
A: Actually, I am fortunate that in the initial days of my career I have got good offers. I am also grateful to the audience who has appreciated my performances in Socha Na Tha and Dor, otherwise these days an artiste’s fate is sealed between hit and flop films. This year my first release is Sunday and I have a lot of expectations from this movie as not only the film is good, but also because it involves good actors and a talented director.
Q: According to you, are you a serious actor or a comedy film actor?
A: I consider myself both. For instance, Dor is such a film that even after 20 years I would feel proud to talk to my children about my performance in the film. On the other hand, I have done some light or comedy films. I am of the opinion that as an actor, I should act in both kinds of films because acting in a particular type of film would not only put a stamp on an actor, but also bore him or her.
Q: Which do you feel was a turning point in your career?
A: Frankly speaking, till date I have not come across any point in my life that I can call a turning point. But I am really hoping for a turning point in my life. All I need is a super-duper hit film and a character that no one has performed so far, so that I can satiate the artist in me. However, I am quite happy with my present situation.
Q: What was the reason that made you accept a film like No Smoking after doing a successful movie like Dor?
A: Look, there can be no comparison between Dor and No Smoking. I don’t want to do any film that will have all the ingredients of a Bollywood masala, but the film should provide me with ample opportunity to perform.
Q: Some of your films like Salaam-E-Ishq and Fool And Final flopped despite having big names and great casting. What is the reason behind this?
A: It has often been seen that when we expect a lot from something, it generally deprives us. It is mostly a matter of luck and chance. As you just said, Salaam-E-Ishq flopped despite having a big star cast. It feels very bad because it was basically not a bad film, but definitely a long one. The problem with Fool And Final was that people took this as a serious film, when we had made it clear in the promos that the audience should take the movie lightly. Although these are not thought-provoking films, I enjoyed doing them very much.
Q: In Bollywood, the audience generally appreciates male comedians rather than female comic actors. Do you feel that the audience will do justice with your performance in Sunday?
A: I sincerely pray that the audience appreciate my performance as a comedienne in the movie. My favorite women comedians in Bollywood are Sridevi and Juhi Chawla and I am sure that everyone will accept this. To tell you honestly, I would prefer to do comedy roles to wearing low cut blouses like the present day heroines.
2007 was a great year for the Hindi film industry. BestDesi team chooses top 10 films.
This year Fresh new faces made an appearance, old talents resurfaced, and already successful actors moved out of their comfort zone.
2007 gave us Ranbir Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor (both in Saawariya), Deepika Padukone (Om Shanti Om) and Darsheel Safary (Taare Zameen Par) – the bright new faces of tomorrow’s Bollywood.
We saw Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan take on roles they’ve never done before: Shah Rukh giving up his mannerisms (in Chak De India!), Aamir becoming a director (in Taare Zameen Par).
Madhuri Dixit and Govinda both made their comebacks, pleasing their huge fan followings no end.
2007’s ten best films, in no particular order:
Gandhi, My Father
Cast: Akshaye Khanna, Bhoomika Chawla Plot: The film focuses on Harilal, the son of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Its message: The father of the Indian nation failed as a father to his son. Why it’s special: A very bold and sensitive storyline was taken forward by exceptional acting, particularly by Akshaye Khanna as the disturbed son of the Mahatma.
Chak De India!
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Vidya Malvade etc. Plot: A disgraced former Indian hockey captain bounces back to lead the women’s team to international victory, against all odds. Why it’s special: Based on the real-life story of Mir Ranjan Negi, a former coach of the Indian women’s hockey team, the film saw Shah Rukh Khan rise spectacularly above his mannerisms. The film proved that a Hindi film can work without any singing around trees. It also helped rekindle public interest in the national sport of hockey.
Om Shanti Om
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone etc. Plot: Inspired by the Eighties classic Karz, the film revolves around revenge and re-incarnation, with Shah Rukh in a double role with a twist. Why it’s special: The film dares to make fun of Seventies’ and Eighties’ Bollywood, including Big B, yet is always in good taste. Brilliant music, acting and costumes all around. Model Deepika makes a pretty good impression in her first film.
Aaja Nachle Cast: Madhuri Dixit, Akshaye Khanna, Kunal Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma Plot: A dancer returns to her roots and forces her city to sit up and take notice. Why it’s special: Madhuri Dixit’s comeback movie may have not done well in the box office, but it proved — again — that Madhuri is beautiful, talented and an exceptional dancer. The fairy-tale plot let the otherwise good movie down.
Plot: A psycho-thriller, the movie revolves around a “haunted” house, an ancient family and its many complications. Why it’s special: Remake of a classic Malayalam film, Bhool Bhulaiya moves quickly with edge-of-seat action. Vidya Balan shines in a role of many shades.
Guru
Cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, R. Madhavan, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty Plot: A rags-to-riches story, arguably inspired by the life of Indian tycoon Dhirubhai Ambani. Why it’s special: A taut storyline that saw exceptional acting by its cast. The director dared to deglamorise Aishwarya and re-introduce Mithun, a senior actor languishing in B-grade movies.
Partner
Cast: Salman Khan, Govinda, Lara Dutta, Katrina Kaif Plot: A remake of Hitch, the story’s all about falling in love – and its many complications. Why it’s special: A fun movie, it marks the re-entry of Govinda as an A-list actor with perfect comic timing.
Taare Zameen Par
Cast: Aamir Khan, Darsheel Safary, Tanay Chheda, Tisca Chopra Plot: A young boy with dyslexia grapples with life, until he meets his mentor — an art teacher also with dyslexia. Why it’s special: “Perfectionist” Aamir Khan’s directorial debut, this film is exceptional in its story-telling. Truly sensitive, minus melodrama and highlighting an often-ignored condition, Taare may also have given Bollywood a new generation star, Darsheel, 11.
Big super flops
The year 2007 has also been marked by some spectacular flops, many of them from celebrated directors.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s musical, Saawariya, did poorly at the box office, despite the much-hyped debut of star kids Ranbir and Sonam Kapoor; the film has a look alike of a ballet with only colours of blue.
Pradip Sarkar’s Lagaa Chunari Mein Daag had a hackneyed storyline and crippling melodrama. The film died naturally, despite the presence of stars such as Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan.
Another huge failure was Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag, a poorly-judged remake of Sholay – a top Bollywood film of all time. Even the presence of Amitabh Bachchan, this time as villain, failed to lift it.
Quote of the day: If you cannot convince them, confuse them. - Harry S Truman
Who is the star of Bollywood. Shah Rukh Khan or Akshay Kumar? Many found this question to be very dumb –“It is Shah Rukh, of course!’’ they said.
There was online voting done and Sharukh did win the poll. This was not unexpected as it was somewhat expected.
Shah Rukh Khan did win the poll and that didn’t surprise us. What did was the large number of readers who voted for Akshay Kumar too! Looks like he is next on the confederacy.
The main reason Sharukh was voted was because of his adaptability which spans across genres such as romance, excitement, comedy and action - not unlike Amitabh Bachchan who ruled Bollywood in the 70s and 80s.
Quote of the day: The opposite of a correct statement is a false statement. But the opposite of a profound truth may well be another profound truth. - Niels Bohr
Chak De! India was voted the No. 1 Bollywood film of 2007. BestDesi.com asked a cross section of people in the Indian film industry about their favourite film.
Last year when Bollywood stars were asked about their favorite film of the year 2006, most of them couldn’t decide between Rang De Basanti and Lage Raho Munnabhai. This year, the Bollywood industry seems to have found universal appeal in the Shah Rukh Khan starred Chak De! India.
The film had everything: a taut screenplay, a patriotic theme, great direction, brilliant characters and superb performances. It was a combination which worked exceptionally well.
There were films such as Om Shanti Om, Bheja Fry, Black Friday, Metro, Gandhi My Father and Jab We Met that came across the stars’ minds, but none of them equaled the universal acceptance that Chak De! India received to take first place.
Prachi Desai, probably the youngest and most ideal daughter-in-law of the small screen, has at once altered the finest dancer as well afterwards gaining the ‘Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 2′ trophy. She is fresh twinkle-toes of ‘Jhalak Dikhla Jaa.
Prachi and her choreographer Deepak gained the trophy and prize money of Rs.5 Million after a hard competition Saturday the 15th December, 2007 in Mumbai beating out finalists Sandhya Mridul and Jay Bhanushali, in the grand finale.
Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, the special guests, gave away the trophies.
Although the three judges gave their votes to Sandhya, the public asserted Prachi, the youngest participant, as the achiever.
Putting on a red tunica with silver leg covering, she was appearing like an energised school child. All the same, she kept in line her exhilaration although the other people were busy bodied reassuring Sandhya.
Prachi, seen as the sari-clad bahu of ‘Kkasam Se’, amazed the whole nation with her dancing acquisitions and became the darling of the judges as well.
Earlier, a twist in the story came when the public voted her out and she was ruled out from the show notwithstanding being the finest performer. Nevertheless, she re-entered with the help of a wild card and she justified it.
Not only that, Ekta Kapoor, termed as the taskmaster, allowed her just four days’ break from ‘Kkasam Se’ to prop oneself for the ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ finals.
Eleventh hour spectacular alterations in the verdict are nothing fresh.
Last year, Shweta Salve was the popular of the judges and viewers and a sure shot achiever. But it was Mona Singh who walked off with the first prize.
While Mona is still searching her big barge in Bollywood, Prachi has already got it. She has been signed opposite Farhan Akhtar for ‘Rock On’.
And so as Jhalak Dikhla Jaa crosses the end to its second season, the winning championship goes to the young Balaji actress - Prachi Desai
Shah Rukh Khan has been offered a Bentley car by Director Ravi Chopra for his guest appearance in the film Bhoothnath. Ravi Chopra had to do this as SRK did not accept any sum as fees for the guest appearance. It is learnt that King Khan used his own apparels and accessories in the film.
Shah Rukh Khan after his London visit recently gifted Farah Khan a Book titled names of babies; but that of course was is of no use to Farah Khan who says the books contains only Christian names like John, Jospeph,Mathew … etc.
Deepika Podukone has a signed an untitled movie with Ranbir Kapoor. The shooting will take place in London. She also has Priyadarshan’s Pirate, a comedy about a band of musicians that opposes piracy in the world of entertainment and Nikhil Advani’s thriller Mera Naam Chin Chin Chooopposite Akshay Kumar. Ranbir Kapoor on the other hand, will next appear in a Yash Raj Film to be directed by Siddharth Anand whose recent film Ta Ra RumPumbarely tattered through at the Box Office. Fascinatingly, Yash Raj had given Ranbir’s father Rishi Kapoor one of his finest films - Kabhi Kabhie.
Priyanka Chopra , the Don girl will be seen in a Shampoo advertisement along with Material GirlMadonna, in an international collaboration. Most of Priyanka’s endorsements have been international brands which means she is dealing with the who’s who. Her name is being circulated in the right circles and so when Sunsilk was on the lookout for an international face from India who could match Madonna and Marilyn they decided on Priyanka? Priyanka Chopra’s recent contract with Sunsilk has put the actress in esteemed company. The shampoo brand has not only taken on the ex-Ms World but also international pop singer Madonna as well as Marilyn Monroe as their new worldwide ambassadors.
Hema Malini, not so content with her daughter Esha’s filmy work, is setting up a Production House to her betis, wherein one will find Esha in the lead role of their film and Ahana, her second daughter will carry on the backdrop matters. Other than a mom who else will understand the whims of her daughter?
Shahid Kapoor is in a big dilemma, as he does not know in whose film he should first work , as both his parents {mother Nilima Azim and father Pankaj Kapoor.. now both divorced }are going to make films in their own way and they both want Shahid Kapoor in the lead role.
Although Madhuri Dixit has packed her baggage and proceeded to US, but the murmuring is that Yash Raj Films wants her to do more films for them. They have some tailor made scripts in particular keeping Madhuri in view. But Madhuri’s stipulation is that the film’s shooting will have to be held in US and furthermore, she will give the shooting schedule only during her son’s vacation period. Anything for you Madhuri!
