The ‘Filmfare Movie Awards’ is a prominent annually organized function at Mumbai for acknowledging and celebrating the best new and old talents in the Indian film industry. Nominees for this award is decided jointly by an expert panel and public voting.

The award when initiated in 1953, there used to be just five award categories in the Filmfare Movie Awards Ceremony ,for the best film, the best director, the best actor, the best actress and the best music director. Presently, Filmfare Award category has risen to as high as 31 to give identifying  others contributed in film-making. It also comprises two Lifetime Achievement Awards.  A separate category for film-critics awards resolute by famous film-critics moderately than votes of the general public is also included.

This year the Filmfare Awards 2008 were given to the following:

• Best Film (Winner: Aamir Khan for Taare Zameen Par)

• Best Director (Winner: Aamir Khan for Taare Zameen Par)

• Best Actor (Winner:  Shah Rukh Khan for Chak De India)

• Best Actress(Winner:  Kareena Kapoor for Jab We Met)

• Best Choreography (Winner: Saroj Khan for Barso Re (Guru))

• Best Actor Critics Award (Winner: Darsheel Safary for Taare Zameen Par)

• Best Debuting (Male) (Winner:  Ranbir Kapoor for Saawariya)

• Best Debuting (Female) (Winner:  Deepika for Om Shanti Om)

• Best Supporting Male  (Winner:  Irrfan Khan for Life in a Metro)

• Best Supporting Female (Winner: Konkana Sen Sharma for Life in a Metro)

• Best Music Direction (Winner:  A. R. Rehman for Guru)

• Best Dialogue (Winner:  Imitiaz Ali for Jab We Met)

• Best Screenplay (Winner:  Anurag Basu for Life in A Metro)

• Best Lyricist (Winner:  Prasoon Joshi for ‘Maa’ from Taare Zameen Par )

• Best Playback Singer (Male) (Winner: Shaan for ‘Jabse Tere Naina’ from Saawariya)

• Best Playback Singer (Female) (Winner: Shreya Ghoshal for ‘ Barso Re ‘ from Guru.)

• Best Cinematography (Winner:  Sudip Chatterjee Chak De India)

• Life Time Achievement Award (Winner: Rishi Kapoor)

• Best Costume Design ( Winner: Sujata Sharma for Gandhi My Father.)

Saroj Khan, Bollywood choreographer is in the preparatory stage of launching a reality show Aaja Nachle Mere Saath from January 2008 onwards in Indian Television.

According to her, any person, whatsoever age can become skilled at dancing all the way through these series and it is inexpensive, economical and practical as one can sit in the living room of one’s house and gain knowledge of dancing, provided one is serious about it. It is one the first shows of this variety in Indian Television, says Saroj Khan.

Saroj has been triumphant in creating tremendous dance module in numerous starlets right from Nutan to Madhuri. In the last season of Nach Baliye she was seen as one of the Judges of the show. It was under Saroj’s tuff and stringent dancing steps Madhuri became a victorious and versatile danseur.
