Kya aap Paanchvi pass se tez hain cavalcade is running from city to city auditioning for the apparent contestants for the show. As so many general public are registering for the auditions, the selection team is in a huge impasse over categorization of the challenger profiles.
The consequence of the on-air and off-air promotion is so marvellous that audience from different backgrounds right from doctors to actors have come to the audition to involve oneself as contestants on Paanchvi Pass.
Bhopal and Bangalore saw lakhs of aspirants requesting to meet Shah Rukh Khan or get his immediate look thinking that he has come personally for the auditions; although SRK didn’t travel himself for the same.
In Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata populace waited for hours outside the audition centers to take Paanchvi pass test and make some fast money; especially with the prize money of 5 crores.
The genuineness will be at last tested on Kya aap paanchvi pass se tez hain in Star Plus commencing from 11th and 12th April, 2008 in the first instance.

Only three contestants were left for the final up till yesterday for the Amul Star Voice of India, Chotte Ustad.
But during the latest non-telecast shoot, Prakriti Giri has been eliminated from Amul Star Voice of India-Chhote Ustaad. Everyone first deliberated that this 12-year-old girl from Darjeeling would tag along the route of Indian Idol 3 winner Prashant Tamang as she continued her balanced scramble in the show, making it to the top five. But dissimilar to Prashant, Prakriti failed to grasp enough votes from the audience which would have saved her from the elimination round. The elimination episode is yet to be telecast and will be aired this Friday.
While liked by the judges, Prakriti faced callous opponents in the form of Aishwarya from Ahmedabad and Anvesha Dutta from Kolkata. In all the voting episodes, Prakriti managed to confine sufficient amount of votes to stay in the battle. She also made a record of sorts by securing the highest number of votes in all the episodes.
Nevertheless, last week, Aishwarya beat her to the top smudge with the uppermost number of votes. I see Aishwarya as queen of the show. She knows how to catch the fancy of the crowd as she is a unadorned superb singer in accurate sagacity and consider it is all about promotion. If one is not marketing the capacity then I am afraid one might gap at the rear. Full marks to the Hon’ble judges, as they have made their target clear to all of us. Now Anwesha have to substantiate herself to choose the popular song. But in spite of all the dramas and political views, it is better if she ponder on her singing only. Adesh precisely said; mike & camera don’t lie & of course when Pritam said, Anwesha is Anwesha. I think it means Anwesha is a brand and a class apart.
Not only India but the total world is behind you to witness the historic moment when history will be created on the Small screen as our Anwesha will be crowned Chhote Ustaad on 5th April ’08.
I am sorry, Aishwariya, I don’t see you in the crowning glory. You lack behind something, which is beyond me and my Team to articulate. Actually we see Anwesha as a full package. She has unfussiness, beauty, exquisiteness, traits, endowment, down to earth outlook, tremendous throw of voice, appropriateness of her voice to many heroines and above all stupendous singing capabilities.
May I take this opportunity to request you all to kindly support Anwesha whole heartedly by sending maximum number of votes to her so as to enabling her winning this competition.
It becomes incumbent upon us to back and support right talent and that is only ANWESHA.

Meet Indian women detective Bhawana Paliwal
Women are there in all types of job stream, teaching, secretatrial work, police, doctor etc.etc. But her job is different. Meet Bhavna Paliwal of New Delhi is, a private detective being hired by Indian brides to investigate about their suitors.
Bhavna Paliwal, is among one of India’s wedding detectives, who are being hired here in growing numbers to dig out out the truth about prospective mates.
In India, hiring a wedding detective like that of Paliwal has become a familiar prenuptial habit, as important as the heavy wedding gold and the multi-cuisine ten-course meal served on plates.
Confidential detectives are in business in India for several years but today their services are more essential than before. As there is a tremendous enhancement in the business class of Delhi, so is the augment of dowries. Those dowries, in turn, have boosted the encouragement for hoax.
Grooms from United States come in haste, marry, then rush back home with the booty, leaving behind what have become known as “abandoned brides. Meanwhile, in India, young couples who meet over the internet are getting away with lies that gossip would once have exposed.
Anupam Mittal, founder of Shaadi.com, an internet portal that celebrated its millionth match last year says,

- Teenagers who often eat breakfast be likely to weigh less, exercise more and eat a more fit diet than those who miss breakfast.
- Researchers in America followed the diet, weight and other lifestyle patterns of 2,216 adolescents, who were just under 15 years old at the outset, for five years. It was found that the more regularly the teenagers ate breakfast, the lower was their body mass index (BMI). BMI is a measure of body weight relative to height. Those who always skipped breakfast on average weighed about 2.3 kg more than the teenagers who ate the meal every day. This was because of the fact that by heavy their appetites in the morning, breakfast eaters could manage their appetite better all through the day, and thus avoid food binges at lunch or dinner.
- The children who ate breakfast regularly, and chiefly every day, were improved in terms of their overall standard of living. They were found to me more actually active and had a better diet, comprising a lower fat intake, lower cholesterol intake and higher fibre intake.
- The study thus suggest that people who habitually miss a meal are obese than those who eat it recurrently. But the food has to be chosen meaty, for example, adolescent people should not snatch a chocolate-coated doughnut for breakfast or any other meal. They should make healthy choices, for example, team up ready-to-eat breakfast cereals, which are high in sugar, but also rich in fibre and nutrients, with low-fat milk and maybe some fruit or fruit juice.

Homage to the legendary and the eternal tragic queen Madhubala on her Birthday/Death Anniversary in February
Her childhood days
Madhubala is India’s Hindi film industry’s, delicate, semi-tragic, mortal survival. She remains a seductress even 35+ year after her demise.

Madhubala’s father, was Ataullah Khan, a Pathan who had immigrated from the Pakistan. She was born, February 14, 1933, Valentines Day, in the Malad suburb of Bombay. Her birth name was Mumtaz Khan, the third of 11 children. Bombay Talkies studio was located in the Malad suburb where the Bombay Talkies was located. She was interviewed at the age of 8 by DeviKa Rani and Himanshu Rai, for an audition. Having impressed by her performance they put her in the movie Basant. The song was a super hit, after she acted in many films as a child artiste. Â
Under the direction of Kidar Sharma, at the age of 13 Mumtaz was signed as heroine opposite Raj Kumar who done the debue with this movie. It was on this film that producer Devika Rani gave her the name Madhubala, which means, “young maiden made of honey”. After that she acted in 17 movies, even when madhubala was not 17.
Madhubala grew within the studio complex. When her friends went to school she gave shooting for the movie, her father was very possessive about her and he doted on her money.Â
Chemistry with Dilip Kumar
She featured with Dilip Kumar in the film Tarana and their off screen affair too started and it is said that this was one of the legendry tragic love affair.

Madhubala and Dilip Kumar were deep in love, but her father opposed. He did not like the affair, as whole her money, property etc. was under his control. Their affair was at that time took to court also as Madhubala’s father did not allow her to go got location shoots with Dilip Kumar. Since her family was totally against the affair, it ended up on a bitter note. Dilip once told about Madhubala that “I love this woman and shall love her till my dying day.” The affair though, had come to a bitter end.
Her love affairs
Old stalwarts say that her first director Mr Kidar Sharma, who gave her first break was in deeply love with her, but madhubla never reciprocated, he was a married man too. Later film Mahal was made by Kamal Amrohi, they too had a serious love affair. Film Mahal was a super hit due to their serious affair.Amrohi was again a married man, madhubala told him to divorce his first wife, she even offered him lakhs of rupees for that. But he wanted to be devoted to his first wife. She became heart broken and then left him in sway.Â
Madhubala was proposed by three men, Pradeep Kumar, Bharat Bhushan and Kishor Kumar. She selected Kishor. They had a civil marriage and Kishore converted to Islam and was renamed Karim Abdul . His parents refused to attend the wedding and never really accepted Madhubala as they thought she had broken their son’s marriage. When Madhubala went to touch her father in law’s feet they moved away.Â
 Â
She moved back to her bungalow because her inlaws were torturing her. Madhubala realised that she had made a mistake in marrying Kishore; who was ineffective and parsimonious. What a catastrophe!!Â

The Screen divinity
She is considered the most beautiful woman to have ever appeared on the Indian film screen. Her untimely death and tragic romance with Dilip Kumar has superior her to legendary significance. Many journalists have claimed that Madhubala was very immoral, and obsessed many lovers. May be it is the thoughts of these journalists’ conjecture. Madhubala was lively and flirtatious, yet this is no proof of carelessness.

Possessing a beautiful face and a mesmerizing smile, Ayesha Takia is one such actress who is capable of winning over people with her performance as well as sweet talk. Another interesting thing about Ayesha is that the cutie has been able to win applauses from the audience both for her roles in serious films as well as in comedy. Soon Ayesha will be seen in an interesting role in Rohit Shetty’s comedy thriller Sunday. Recently, we caught up with Ayesha and during a brief encounter she talked about her film Sunday, her upcoming projects and plans for the future. Here are the excerpts.
Q: Tell us something about your character in Sunday.
A: In this film, my character’s name is Sehar who works as a dubbing artiste for a cartoon network. She is a very forgetful kind of a girl and cannot remember things of the past and as a result she is often in problems.
Q: This is the first time that you are portraying a dubbing artist. Did you need to take any special preparation for this?
A: Actually Vikash, who had trained Tussar Kapur for the dumb character in Golmaal, has helped me a lot in doing this role to perfection. Simultaneously, I used to watch a lot of cartoon films at home to prepare myself for the role which demanded that the facial expressions of the artist should match his voice. While doing this role I have often noticed that the expressions of some dubbing artists are very loud and on the other hand, some people’s appearances are so funny that I often used to feel ashamed. I loved doing this role as it provided me with an opportunity to learn a lot of things.
Q: While preparing for the role you have watched a lot of cartoon shows. Which among them is your favorite?
A: I personally liked ‘Donald Duck’ and ‘Mickey Mouse’ a lot and this is also because of the voice-overs in these shows. I also liked ‘Tom and Jerry’, but this is a silent cartoon show and hence I did not get much to learn from this show.
Q: Would you call this a return to your childhood days?
A: (Laughingly) No, it is nothing like this. But it is also true that I have never spent so much time watching cartoon networks and now it looks so strange. I remember initially when I used to watch the cartoon networks, my dad used to come and tease me saying that I was watching cartoons at this age and I used to smilingly reply that I am merely preparing for my role. Then he used to remind me that I would do the same thing when I was a kid.
Q: What has been your experience working with co-stars?
A: I have enjoyed a lot working with everyone. There were four men - Ajay, Arshad, Irfaan and Rohit - in the film and I was the lone girl. But I have never felt any difference working with them and even joked with them. Ajay is not only a sporting person, but also very protective. Many people have told me that he is prankster, but I have always found him to be an introvert. Irfaan too is very much like Ajay, but Arshad is a funny person and always made us laugh with his jokes and pranks. And what should I tell about Rohit, he was the director, but still one of us. While working he was serious, but rest of the time, he was like a friend.
Q: In this film there is an incident where you miss a Sunday. How do you spend your Sundays in real life?
A: (Laughingly) Sundays were very attractive to me since my school days as it would be a holiday. I always feel very upset when I miss a holiday in real life. On Sundays I wake up late and do all my work leisurely. And there is a special fun in watching television shows on this day.
Q: After Sunday what else is in the pipeline?
A: I am working in Boney Kapoor’s Wanted which is a remake of Pokhri in Tamil. I am doing the role of a gym instructor who doesn’t have a father and she works to look after her mother and younger brother. I am also working with Nagesh once again, but I don’t know whether the film will be titled 8 BY 10 or Tasveer. This is a big budget psychological thriller and here I am opposite Akshay Kumar. The film is a story about a couple from Canada. In addition, I am doing De Taali for E Nivas and the film is based on the topic of friendship. Aftab is opposite me in this film, which is a wonderful movie like Socha Na Tha.
Q: Since the beginning of your career you have concentrated on career-oriented films rather than masala films. What is your take on this?
A: Actually, I am fortunate that in the initial days of my career I have got good offers. I am also grateful to the audience who has appreciated my performances in Socha Na Tha and Dor, otherwise these days an artiste’s fate is sealed between hit and flop films. This year my first release is Sunday and I have a lot of expectations from this movie as not only the film is good, but also because it involves good actors and a talented director.
Q: According to you, are you a serious actor or a comedy film actor?
A: I consider myself both. For instance, Dor is such a film that even after 20 years I would feel proud to talk to my children about my performance in the film. On the other hand, I have done some light or comedy films. I am of the opinion that as an actor, I should act in both kinds of films because acting in a particular type of film would not only put a stamp on an actor, but also bore him or her.
Q: Which do you feel was a turning point in your career?
A: Frankly speaking, till date I have not come across any point in my life that I can call a turning point. But I am really hoping for a turning point in my life. All I need is a super-duper hit film and a character that no one has performed so far, so that I can satiate the artist in me. However, I am quite happy with my present situation.
Q: What was the reason that made you accept a film like No Smoking after doing a successful movie like Dor?
A: Look, there can be no comparison between Dor and No Smoking. I don’t want to do any film that will have all the ingredients of a Bollywood masala, but the film should provide me with ample opportunity to perform.
Q: Some of your films like Salaam-E-Ishq and Fool And Final flopped despite having big names and great casting. What is the reason behind this?
A: It has often been seen that when we expect a lot from something, it generally deprives us. It is mostly a matter of luck and chance. As you just said, Salaam-E-Ishq flopped despite having a big star cast. It feels very bad because it was basically not a bad film, but definitely a long one. The problem with Fool And Final was that people took this as a serious film, when we had made it clear in the promos that the audience should take the movie lightly. Although these are not thought-provoking films, I enjoyed doing them very much.
Q: In Bollywood, the audience generally appreciates male comedians rather than female comic actors. Do you feel that the audience will do justice with your performance in Sunday?
A: I sincerely pray that the audience appreciate my performance as a comedienne in the movie. My favorite women comedians in Bollywood are Sridevi and Juhi Chawla and I am sure that everyone will accept this. To tell you honestly, I would prefer to do comedy roles to wearing low cut blouses like the present day heroines.

The 40 year-old man, identified as Murugesh, had climbed up the pole and made wild demands.

High-voltage suicide excitement ends safe and sound
- A suicide attempt by a 40-year-old Indian was thwarted by Dubai Police on Friday afternoon after over 15 hours of dialogue. Murugeshan, a helper from the southern Indian city Chennai, was rescued at 12.45pm. He was detained by the Dubai Police for interrogation.
- The high voltage drama began on Thursday evening around 9.30pm when Murugeshan climbed atop a 30-metre, 32 KV cable tower after drinking alcohol.
- Electricity through the cable was cut off and officials from the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) rushed to the spot along with Civil Defence personnel, police and para-medics.
“It was nerve-racking. The weather was chilly. The man had perched himself on top of the cable tower. We tried to persuade him to get down and not to try something foolish. He was just not in a mood to listen. Senior officials from Dubai Police, Dubai Civil Defence and a team of paramedics kept vigil under the tower,” said Captain ,Air and Fire rescue, Dubai Civil Defence.
“Murugeshan wanted to speak to his relative. He was making wild demands and changing his mind in minutes,” said Al Rahoomi.
- Murugeshan has been working in the UAE for three months and consumed alcohol. He is married with four children. Murugeshan had first demanded a piece of land on which he wanted to built a factory.
- After smoking two cigarettes, speaking to a relative on the mobile and sipping some water, Murugeshan finally agreed to be rescued at 12.45pm.
- He was brought down handcuffed and was immediately whisked off to the Bur Dubai police station.
- Consuming liquor in this part of Arab country is itself outlawed, and Murugesh has wrecked the law by ingestion of liquor and used public possessions with no good reason for his imprudent demands, he is probably likely to get a good reprimand for the action, as this is UAE where each person is accountable for their action and conduct, dissimilar to India where citizens are left scot-free for all deeds of these stuff.

2007 was a great year for the Hindi film industry. BestDesi team chooses top 10 films.
- This year Fresh new faces made an appearance, old talents resurfaced, and already successful actors moved out of their comfort zone.
- 2007 gave us Ranbir Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor (both in Saawariya), Deepika Padukone (Om Shanti Om) and Darsheel Safary (Taare Zameen Par) – the bright new faces of tomorrow’s Bollywood.
- We saw Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan take on roles they’ve never done before: Shah Rukh giving up his mannerisms (in Chak De India!), Aamir becoming a director (in Taare Zameen Par).
- Madhuri Dixit and Govinda both made their comebacks, pleasing their huge fan followings no end.
2007’s ten best films, in no particular order:
- Gandhi, My Father
Cast: Akshaye Khanna, Bhoomika Chawla
Plot: The film focuses on Harilal, the son of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Its message: The father of the Indian nation failed as a father to his son.
Why it’s special: A very bold and sensitive storyline was taken forward by exceptional acting, particularly by Akshaye Khanna as the disturbed son of the Mahatma.
- Chak De India!
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Vidya Malvade etc.
Plot: A disgraced former Indian hockey captain bounces back to lead the women’s team to international victory, against all odds.
Why it’s special: Based on the real-life story of Mir Ranjan Negi, a former coach of the Indian women’s hockey team, the film saw Shah Rukh Khan rise spectacularly above his mannerisms. The film proved that a Hindi film can work without any singing around trees. It also helped rekindle public interest in the national sport of hockey.
- Om Shanti Om
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone etc.
Plot: Inspired by the Eighties classic Karz, the film revolves around revenge and re-incarnation, with Shah Rukh in a double role with a twist.
Why it’s special: The film dares to make fun of Seventies’ and Eighties’ Bollywood, including Big B, yet is always in good taste. Brilliant music, acting and costumes all around. Model Deepika makes a pretty good impression in her first film.
- Aaja Nachle
Cast: Madhuri Dixit, Akshaye Khanna, Kunal Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma
Plot: A dancer returns to her roots and forces her city to sit up and take notice.
Why it’s special: Madhuri Dixit’s comeback movie may have not done well in the box office, but it proved — again — that Madhuri is beautiful, talented and an exceptional dancer. The fairy-tale plot let the otherwise good movie down.
- Bhool Bhulaiya
Cast: Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Shiney Ahuja
Plot: A psycho-thriller, the movie revolves around a “haunted” house, an ancient family and its many complications.
Why it’s special: Remake of a classic Malayalam film, Bhool Bhulaiya moves quickly with edge-of-seat action. Vidya Balan shines in a role of many shades.
- Guru
Cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, R. Madhavan, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty
Plot: A rags-to-riches story, arguably inspired by the life of Indian tycoon Dhirubhai Ambani.
Why it’s special: A taut storyline that saw exceptional acting by its cast. The director dared to deglamorise Aishwarya and re-introduce Mithun, a senior actor languishing in B-grade movies.
- Partner
Cast: Salman Khan, Govinda, Lara Dutta, Katrina Kaif
Plot: A remake of Hitch, the story’s all about falling in love – and its many complications.
Why it’s special: A fun movie, it marks the re-entry of Govinda as an A-list actor with perfect comic timing.
- Taare Zameen Par
Cast: Aamir Khan, Darsheel Safary, Tanay Chheda, Tisca Chopra
Plot: A young boy with dyslexia grapples with life, until he meets his mentor — an art teacher also with dyslexia.
Why it’s special: “Perfectionist” Aamir Khan’s directorial debut, this film is exceptional in its story-telling. Truly sensitive, minus melodrama and highlighting an often-ignored condition, Taare may also have given Bollywood a new generation star, Darsheel, 11.
Big super flops
The year 2007 has also been marked by some spectacular flops, many of them from celebrated directors.
- Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s musical, Saawariya, did poorly at the box office, despite the much-hyped debut of star kids Ranbir and Sonam Kapoor; the film has a look alike of a ballet with only colours of blue.
- Pradip Sarkar’s Lagaa Chunari Mein Daag had a hackneyed storyline and crippling melodrama. The film died naturally, despite the presence of stars such as Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan.
- Another huge failure was Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag, a poorly-judged remake of Sholay – a top Bollywood film of all time. Even the presence of Amitabh Bachchan, this time as villain, failed to lift it.
Quote of the day:
If you cannot convince them, confuse them. - Harry S Truman

In IndiaUncut a blog by Amit Varma , Is a roundup of the years news which includes Rakhi, Shilpa and many others which make India what it is.
