The offensive lyrics of Aaja Nachle

Within hours of its release on 30th Nov, 2007, Actor Madhuri Dixit's comeback movie Aaja Nachle had hit a erroneous note.

  • · Producers of Madhuri Dixit 's comeback film Aaja Nachle , ran into a hullabaloo over its title song, later apologised for the lyrics and said that immediate action has been taken to remove the objectionable words.
  • · The instructions to remove the offending lyrics in the title song of the film had been sent to all distributors and exhibitors on Friday night and will not be heard in theatres from Saturday, a release from film's producer Yashraj Films stated in Mumbai.

The prohibited lines are:

“Bazar me machi he maramar; bole mochi bhi khud ko sunhar”

(There is so much chaos in the market that even a cobbler is calling himself a jeweller)…

  • · In New Delhi, activists of a Dalit outfit Indian Justice Party on Friday staged a demonstration against the movie alleging that the lyrics of a song hurt the Dalits. They found a line from the title track offensive and besieged movie halls showing the film and publicity material.
  • · That was good enough for UP Chief Minister Mayawati to revoke the ban, although Haryana and Punjab still haven't allowed it to be screened. The team behind the film also apologised at a press conference in Mumbai.
  • "Nobody had any intentions of hurting or ridiculing anyone and nobody on the Censor Board saw it that way," said script writer
  • Jaideep Sahni.
  • · But that didn't gratify everyone. In Mumbai, Shiv Sena protested at a theatre while RPI leader Ramdas Athawale asked for the producer, director, writer and lyricist of the film to be charged under the Atrocity Act.
  • · The Minorities Commission also jumped in, saying the words used are unconstitutional. The film however, received support from directors and viewers alike.
  • "I saw the film and absolutely loved it. I think there is a cultural message," said filmmaker Karan Johar.
  • · While controversy is not new to Bollywood films, this is something that even the makers of the movie may not have bargained for.
  • · The controversial lyrics has since been removed.
  • · And Madhuri Dixit has packed her luggage and proceeded to US in a distress state.

Aaja Nachle : Movie Preview

For a performer like Madhuri who persistently believes dancing awakens mysticism, no other movie could have manifest a be suitable return to Bollywood than Yashraj Films’ ‘Aaja Nachle’.

[slideshow=3]

Aaja Nachle stars brilliant actors like Kunal Kapoor , Konkona Sen Sharma , Raghuvir Yadav , Vinay Pathak , Ranvir Shorey , Jugal Hansraj and Darshan Jariwala .

Star cast:

Madhuri Dixit as Dia

She was the life of Shamli. The town never forgave her and she never forgave the town. Anokhi is in fact anokhi (different). The difficulty is, Anokhi cannot sing or dance to conserve her life, or Dia's.

Kunal Kapoor as Imran

Imran, a local self-assertive guy, believes that love, romance etc. is for timid, not for tough guys like him.

Additional stars:

Jugal Hansraj plays an accountant.

Précis:

During a dance rehearsal in New York, Dia gets a unforeseen call from India after a decade which cause distress to her.

Her Guru, Makarand (Darshan Zariwala) is on his last legs and she must return to Shamli town. This is the town where she was born and bread and where she learned the first step of dancing,. This is the town where lived her parents and other loved ones.

This is a heartbreaking and anxious return. The Guru is no more and the foundation that he dotingly developed is in decompose and under danger of pulling down. The theatre named Ajantha with which Dia‘s past recollections are surrounded is being pulled down by the local political authorities as they feel it is a misuse of leading real estate.

Dia takes the support of Raghubir Yadav, for the prevention of destruction of the theatre and built in a new. Dia picks up the challenge in an ambience of suspect, mockery and dynamic aggression and agrees to accomplish the near unattainable job of putting together a theatrical production.

In a time limit of two months she has to prove her worth and she can take the help of members of Shamili town only, or else the bulldozers will pull down the structure.

Thus begins Dia’s turbulent expedition of big business with small town irrational knowledge, conflicting with the anger of the influential supplier, the sarcasm of the local political powers, determine the understated tensions of inter personal relationships and so on…..

Dia’s group includes small rank muscle Imran (Kunal Kapoor), the local rough boisterous Anokhi (Konkona Sen), local ex-MLA Chaudhary Om Singh (Akhilendra Mishra), a tea stall owner Mohan Sharma (Ranvir Shorey), a accountable government official Mr. Chojar (Vinay Pathak), an insurance agent Sanjeev Mehta (Jugal Hansraj), the town homeless person Dhankuber (Nowaz) and a crowd of many others.

Dia’s target is to generate in this pandemonium ,a command to save Ajanta, in a bid to safeguard what her guru so adoringly tendered. She must craft art in order to defend what she believes is the soul of culture.

Jaideep Sahni is the author of the storyline based on the idea of Aditya Chopra.

The film’s music has been given by Salim-Sulaiman. Lyrics are by Piyush Mishra, Jaideep Sahni and Asif Ali Beg.

Main attraction:

    1. Comeback of Madhuri Dixit
    2. The Big Yash Raj Banner
    3. The addictive songs, Show me your jalwa and Sonia Saigal’s westernised Come on dance with me.
    4. Non insertion of any soaring hero, or else the male protagonist would have surpassed Madhuri.

Madhuri has got bundle of buoyancy on her face! Not every actress makes progress or make impressive comeback achievements. Once again Madhuri has proved that rigid effort and will power are the most apt implements, which could take her to shaky position to reach the assured distance. She is the best actress with less attitude

Madhuri is aesthetic, naive, and poised, with an indispensable heart of Indianness that is classic and appeals to all viewer. An element of risk is still involved . Hindi film industry has transformed a lot during her non-existence from the front battle. Will this type of town storyline visualize audience? Will she able to live up to expectations of the people is an dubious task. Although even in her 40’s she is still gorgeous, it would be unfair to expect the same refreshing perfection from her. It is the acting talent which will be tested now. As a middle aged lady, how much deepness she will bring to the character is a big question. Kajol in Fanaa pulled off a superb comeback as a blind girl, capably assisted by Aamir Khan. Now let us wait and watch how Madhuri is made of.

That inspired restiveness is what may make the difference. Aaja Nach Le is a vigilant taxing on Madhuri and Yash Raj. If the film proves to be worth seeing, we could get to see more of that luminous, extraordinary shaft of light in the approaching years.
